Trami to target Taiwan and China
Updated 20 Aug 2013 @ 09:21
This alert applies to to the following locations: China / Taiwan
Tropical storm Trami is targeting Taiwan and parts of eastern China. Slow-moving Trami is expected to strengthen to a typhoon Tuesday, as it begins a northwest, then west-northwest track.

On this track, Trami's center will track near or over Taiwan, home to roughly 23 million people, on Wednesday, most likely as a Category 1- or  2-equivalent typhoon. From there, Trami will track toward southeast China by Thursday, most likely remaining well south of Shanghai and north of Hong Kong.

Storm surge flooding is expected along Taiwan's east coast as Trami approaches, and damaging winds will also be a threat, particularly over Taiwan's higher elevations. The most serious threat may be from flash flooding and mudslides in Taiwan, as well as over southeast China this week.
